Build a Structure

For our final month's Read 'n Do project, we built structures in the library.  Newspaper was left out, along with books on building, and students had fun seeing what they could create out of rolled up newspaper and masking tape.  The most creative structure?  A pegasus and her baby!

May Madness!

We may be two months late, but Goldenview Library also had a May Madness competition.  During the month of April, students around the school voted for their favorite books, and the top eight went head to head in a bracket-style competition.  The eight competitors were Eragon, The Lightning Thief, Unwind, The Strange Case of Origami Yoda, The Hunger Games, Wings, Cirque du Freak, and The Maze Runner.  Last Friday the two weeks of intense competition boiled down to The Lightning Thief versus The Hunger Games.  In an upset win, The Lightning Thief came from behind and beat The Hunger Games 207-186!

The 2012 May Madness champion of Goldenview is The Lightning Thief!!

Loussac Summer Reading Program

Are you sad because your checkout privileges have been suspended for the year?  Do you wonder how you're going to make it through the summer with no library books?  Well have no fear, the public library is here!!  Loussac has a summer reading program just for teens, and it starts this weekend!!  Sign up and start reading!  Not only can you read for prizes, but you can also read for charity!  Money will be donated to the polar bears at the zoo if teens read 300,000 minutes this summer.  If not for you, then do it for the polar bears!

The Summer Reading Program says this: "Teens: own the night this summer and read to win prizes. Come to any library location to pick up your prizes at 750 minutes (halfway) and 1500 minutes (completion). Your reading can count towards Readers to the Rescue: the polar bears at the Alaska Zoo will get a generous donation from the Friends of the Library if the people of Anchorage read 300,000 minutes."

Register and get started here.
